Span-America Medical Systems, a leader in the development of pressure management solutions for long term care, has re-launched its e-Learning education and training site with simplified access, and expanded content for both clinical education and product training.
The self-study training modules do not require special links, passwords or sign-in, and can be viewed within two clicks of arriving at spanamerica.com. For larger, multi-facility customers, the company also provides customized product-specific training.
Span-America Manager of Clinical Support Kathy Whittington, RN, MS, CWCN, says the new, more accessible training curriculum is being offered in response to evolving customer preferences and to streamline the digital pathway to important information. The series of e-learning modules uses authoritative visual material including animated video to inform and educate and is designed to support caregivers, clinicians and decision-makers in long term care and across the healthcare spectrum.
Whittington, who is an experienced course developer and instructor around pressure management issues, explains, “The first two modules in the series give an overview of this persistent problem and its causes, showing how to recognize the NPUAP (National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel) pressure ulcer stages. We are also developing a growing library of modules which identify the recommended intervention technology for prevention and/or treatment. To assist clinicians and customers at every level including patients and family members, we then recommend solutions from Span’s extensive pressure management product series.”
Recommended solutions vary from foam or gel mattress overlays to multi-layered anatomically-calibrated reactive foam surfaces and an array of powered surfaces with active therapies. Span’s pressure management series include brands – familiar in long term care – such as Geo-Matt®, Geo-Mattress®, PressureGuard®, Custom Care® and Easy Air®.
Future course topics include “Support Surface Selection Using an Algorithm,” which shows how pressure ulcer staging can indicate the most effective product technology for prevention or treatment. An upcoming series of modules about seating solutions, such as wound-specific wheel chair cushions, will similarly educate about therapeutic designs and product selection.
