Seniors to give neighbors a run for their money with Third Annual Eastgate 5K Run/Walk on Thursday, September 18
Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) September 10, 2014 -- Hundreds of local runners, walkers and neighborhood watchers are expected to convene at Beacon Hill at Eastgate – Grand Rapids’ premier continuing care retirement community – for the third annual Eastgate 5K at 6:30 p.m. on September 18. It’s a community event that bridges the generations, with senior citizens and junior athletes alike racing for the finish line.
The race benefits the Eastgate Neighborhood Association and the Mary and Martha Benevolent Care Fund, which supports the financial needs of residents whose assets and income are depleted.
WHAT: A 5K (3.1 mile) Run and ½ Mile Walk. The cost is $25 to do the 5K and $5 to do the ½-mile walk. Other event details:
• Spectators will enjoy music and food from sponsors, as well as fresh ingredients from Beacon Hill’s half-acre garden.
• Race winners will include Top Male & Female; Overall Masters (40+) and Grand Masters (60+.) There will also be awards for age group winners, 1st-3rd place. Top winners will take home gift cards to local stores such as Striders.
WHERE: Starting line is in the front parking lot of 1919 Beacon Hill at Eastgate, on Boston Street between Breton Road and Plymouth Avenue in Grand Rapids.

WHY: Building a sense of community is a priority for the Beacon Hill continuing care retirement community. The Eastgate 5K joins Beacon Hill residents with their surrounding neighbors in Eastgate for a fun evening together. The Eastgate 5K raises money for the Eastgate Neighborhood Association and the Mary and Martha Benevolent Care Fund, which provides financial support to Beacon Hill senior living residents. Beacon Hill never asks a resident to leave for financial reasons.
