Four North Carolina State University students recently created a nail polish that they say can indicate date-rape drugs by changing colors when dipped into a spiked drink. Millennium Treatment Group hopes that this new product will help women protect themselves against date rape.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, approximately one in four college-aged women is date raped or experience an attempted date rape during her college years. Women between the ages of 16 and 24 are four times more likely to be date raped than any other age group, and women who are date raped do not even realize that what happened even meets the legal definition of date rape.

Many date-rape drugs are difficult to detect because they leave the system quickly. With the new nail polish, potential date-rape victims can quickly identify if their drink has a date-rape drug in it.
