Compton, Calif. (PRWEB) September 11, 2014 -- School was in session at Mayo Elementary School over the weekend, but instead of meeting in the classroom, teachers and students met on the playground for some community building during the Shiekh Shoes and Timberland“Back to New” school beautification project.
Volunteers met at the Compton school Saturday morning to partake in painting and planting projects around the school grounds. From mixing paint and turning soil to designing murals, Mayo teachers, students and parents, along with representatives from Shiekh Shoes, including founder Shiekh Ellahi, Timberland, including West Coast account manager Darren Colton, Puma, Cross Colours and the City of Compton worked from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to give new life to the school.
Shiekh Shoes is committed to supporting the communities it serves through initiatives like the school renovation with Timberland and a recent backpack giveaway. The Shiekh Shoes Community Center is another initiative to give the children of Compton a safe place to engage in sports and to receive afters school care and homework help.
“We had a great time working with the kids and brands at Mayo,” said Devin Robinson, Timberland account manager for Shiekh Shoes. “It feels great to help out with meaningful projects in Compton and other communities we are a part of.”
