A Heart Healthy Transformation for the Community of Elmhurst
Aug 26, Elmhurst, IL (PRWEB) September 13, 2014 -- The employees of Elmhurst Park District, which includes about 600 personnel, had the exciting opportunity to hear Dr. Karl “Fritz” Disque speak about Life’s Simple 7™ on Tuesday, August 25th. Elmhurst Park District employees live and work to provide experiences for lifelong enjoyment of those living and playing in Elmhurst. They seek to be a customer-centered organization through innovative ideas and sustainability. Elmhurst Park District has hundreds of programs, parks and facilities with several events and involvement opportunities to improve the lives of all living in Elmhurst.
Dr. Disque, executive director of the Disque Foundation, is a board certified physician, practicing anesthesiologist and social entrepreneur. He was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to those living in Elmhurst about American Heart Association’s (AHA) Life’s Simple 7™ program. It is no surprise that heart disease kills Americans, but the number has skyrocketed to approximately 600,000 every year. In an effort to prevent these deaths, the AHA developed Life’s Simple 7™, a program which includes 7 components of good heart health: getting active, controlling cholesterol, eating better, managing blood pressure, losing weight, reducing blood sugar and eliminating tobacco use. Dr. Disque spent much of the time discussing cholesterol and hypertension, as well as answering many questions regarding heart disease prevention and management.
Dr. Disque presented this vital information in an effort to inspire others to live inspired lives. By living a life with Life’s Simple 7™ in mind, the city of Elmhurst can prevent heart disease and improve overall health drastically. The Disque Foundation will be partnering with the AHA in more upcoming events, including a heart walk in September! Elmhurst Park District has unquestionably inspired all members of the Disque Foundation with their willingness to become a healthier community.
