Vista College Beaumont is one of nine different campuses participating in this company-wide effort to help save lives from America’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers: heart disease and stroke

The Beaumont Campus of Vista College is rallying teachers, students and members of the community to walk in the upcoming American Heart Associations’ (AHA) Heart Walk on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the Vista campus, at 3871 Stagg Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77701. Heart Walk is AHA’s premiere event for raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 3 killers: heart disease and stroke.

“Heart disease has affected many of our employees, family members, and friends,” said Jim Tolbert, CEO, Vista College. “Because Vista College has seven on-ground campuses in Texas and one in New Mexico, we feel as a company we can make a significant impact to help our loved ones and many others affected by this disease. Each of our campuses is excited and working hard, and they are hopeful that local community members will join the effort! Together we can make a difference.”

This year, more than 1 million walkers will participate in nearly 350 events creating an environment that is fun and rewarding for the whole family. Vista College will provide Heart Walk t-shirts and Vista College Heart Walk Stress Balls to walkers on Vista Teams as well as a tent with water, juice, and snacks where team members can gather following the walk.

“We are excited to promote health and wellness within our own workplaces while raising awareness and much needed dollars within all of our communities,” added Tolbert. “With a goal of $50,000 this year, it is our hope to make this an annual event that will grow each year. Presently we have almost 500 walkers signed up across all campuses and have raised nearly $10,000.”

“You may find it interesting that for every hour of regular exercise, you can add two hours to your life expectancy,” added Tolbert. “So please join us on September 13 for this fun and important cause which will not only lengthen your life, but could also quite possibly save it.”
