Joanie’s Sisters in Support, a sorority of cancer survivors, will hold its inaugural meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave.
The get-to-know-you mixer will feature a tour of the Joanie Abdu Breast Center, an overview of the center by Dr. Rashid Abdu, and an update on the latest breast cancer screening guidelines and treatments by Dr. Nancy Gantt.
Dr. Abdu, a general surgeon, is the driving force behind development of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, which is named in honor of his wife, who died of breast cancer in 1994.
Dr. Gantt, also a general surgeon, specializes in treating diseases of the breast and is a breast cancer survivor herself.
The meeting is open to all women affected by breast or ovarian cancer – newly diagnosed as well as long-term survivors – and a guest.
Free parking is available in the lot immediately adjacent to the center on Park Avenue.
