Girl Scouts Opens First Aid/CPR and Outdoor Skills Certification Courses to Area Outdoor Enthusiasts
Athens, GA (PRWEB) September 12, 2014 -- Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia invites adults (male and female) to take advantage of the upcoming skills training courses along with the organization’s volunteers this fall. Girl Scout volunteers receive some of the best training available at a remarkably low cost. Registration fees cover the costs of instruction and materials and should be paid to Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. Certified trainers will be providing the following certification courses in the local area:
American Heart Association First Aid/Child & Adult CPR - $55 for non-Girl Scout members
Date: Oct. 18, 2014
Time: 1-5 pm
Location: Athens Girl Scouts Service Center, 185 Newton Bridge Road, Athens, GA
Deadline to register: 10/9/14
American Red Cross Life Guarding - $112 for full class; $102 for re-certification
Participants must be at least 15 years of age and must be able to: a) swim 300 yards and b) swim 20 yards, dive down 7-10 feet to retrieve a ring and swim back within 100 seconds.
Full Class: Date: Sept. 20 from 8am-5 pm.
Recertifiation Class: Sept. 20 from 8am-12pm.
Location: Camp Lanier, near Cumming in Forsyth County
Outdoor Skills 101 - $30
The course covers: how to use campfires for basic outdoor cooking including foil and one pot meals; use of a propane stove; knife safety; how to tie knots; how to apply girl-led planning and progression; health, safety, and security controls to ensure the well-being of girls and adults; and how to experience living in the out-of-doors. Note- pre-course work will be required.
