Hotel Phillips Continues Its Tradition Of Celebrating the Arts

“We are thrilled to welcome Madeline Gallucci to Hotel Phillips as the new Artist in Residence”

Hotel Phillips, a historic and prestigious boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, announced today that Madeline Gallucci will be the hotel’s new “Artist in Residence” beginning September 1, 2014.

Gallucci’s work explores, dissects, and reinterprets our everyday environment by means of vibrant drawings, whimsical paintings and digital prints. Since coming to Kansas City, she has traveled and performed with Whoop Dee Doo and shown her work at a wide variety of galleries and venues. Gallucci currently works at Kansas City Art Institute as the Campus Activities & Housing Coordinator, where she plans and coordinates events such as the annual Drag Show and Field Day celebrations.

Additionally, Gallucci was the winner of the Lester Goldman Drawing Competition in 2012, and was recently a guest on Artspeak Radio on KKFI.

“We are thrilled to welcome Madeline Gallucci to Hotel Phillips as the new Artist in Residence,” said Gerald Rappaport, the General Manager at Hotel Phillips. “Her unique work is spellbinding and her energy is contagious. We cannot wait to share her creative vision with our guests from around the world!”

To celebrate Gallucci’s residency, Hotel Phillips will celebrate her work at an event on October 23, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

“I am excited to continue the conversation and art revival that is happening downtown,” said Gallucci. “For me, it will be an opportunity to further connect with the city and bring democracy to the arts and its possibilities. Art doesn’t necessarily need to be made behind closed doors. Artists are advocates, diplomats, creative leaders and problem solvers in today’s society. I am looking forward to being that extension to Hotel Phillips and its guests.”

In recent years, Kansas City has evolved into a revived arts community. Being located in the epicenter of local creativity, Hotel Phillips embraces and supports the artists, musicians and arts organizations, such as Gallucci, who continue to build the city’s reputation as one of the most brilliant stars on the arts horizon.

In addition to its Artist in Residence program, Hotel Phillips also features local up-and-coming musicians through its weekly Featured Friday music events.

Gallucci graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2012 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. To view more of Madeline’s work, please visit her website, http://www.madelinegallucci.com

As part of her Artist in Residence responsibilities, Gallucci will share her original work at Hotel Phillips, its award-winning restaurant, 12 Baltimore, local events and shows across the area, and her website.
