It's important to consider scheduling basic maintenance for a commercial or residential water heater.

Plumbing company Southern Plumbing Services recently released new guidelines regarding water heaters. The initiative is intended to assist homeowners with maintaining their water heaters to prolong their durability.
Most people do not think about maintaining their water heaters, which Southern Plumbing considers dangerous. For many homeowners, little to no attention is paid to the water heater until it stops working or malfunctions. It's important to consider scheduling basic maintenance for a commercial or residential water heater. These measures are important to the life and longevity of the water heater.
According to plumbing experts, you should drain your tank at least once a year. First, turn off the water supply by switching off the power at the breaker box or thermostat and shutting down the cold water supply that feeds the water heater. Then drain out the hot water by opening one of the hot-water faucets in one of your tubs or sinks. The draining action is for removing any sediment that may have accumulated in the tank. Turn the water supply back on to flush out any remaining sediment. Then turn the power supply of the water heater back on at the thermostat or breaker box, right after the tank has filled with water. Once the temperature of the water is back up, test the pressure-relief valve to make sure there is no excess pressure or overheating.
Tankless water heaters in particular rely on high-powered burners to heat water, rather than keeping heated water in a tank. As a result, they tend to be more energy efficient. Cleaning consists of a flushing and draining procedure that requires undiluted white vinegar and hoses connected to the heater's purge port valves. Although water heater cleaning once a year is the industry standard, Southern Plumbing Services recommends twice-a-year cleaning, or once every six months, for tankless water heaters. Also, when in use, the company recommends plugging the water heater into a power surge protection system to prevent damage from electrical surges.
