Benito Juarez Community Academy Will Receive Another Year of Funding for School Program That Empowers and Engages Students

Listen Up Español will gift $170,000 to fund the second consecutive year of buildOn’s program at Benito Juarez Community Academy in Chicago.

Leading bilingual contact center, Listen Up Español, looks forward to the success of year two for the buildOn program. The $170,000 donation will benefit students of the Benito Juarez Community Academy, located in the Pilsen suburb of Chicago. At a school where approximately 2,000 students are enrolled, 97% of students are of Hispanic descent.

Listen Up Español’s company culture focuses on ‘Delivering Awesomeness’ and fulfilling core values such as ‘Going Beyond Ourselves’. After realizing buildOn shared a similar vision to improve education and never stop learning, Listen Up Español was inspired to work with buildOn on an ongoing basis. Through this partnership, Listen Up Español hopes to empower the U.S. Hispanic youth to go beyond themselves and reach their greatest potential.

The buildOn program helps students become invested in their community through service projects and volunteering, which fosters the value of helping others who are less fortunate. By reflecting on the work they are doing, the students build confidence in themselves, expand their ambitions, and achieve more at school in order to create a better future for themselves and their community.

In 2013, the program involved 262 students who contributed 9,261 hours of community service. Students also took part in 1,470 hours of mentoring, internships and leadership, as well as community and global education. The buildOn U.S. program model focuses on five qualitative goals: Academic Engagement, Civic Engagement, Empowerment, Expanded Sense of Possibilities, and Personal and Social Development.

Listen Up Español has donated in the past to construct schools with buildOn in Haiti and Nicaragua.
