Military spouses tell us all the time that they want to give back to their community...
Alexandria, Virginia (PRWEB) September 15, 2014
The National Military Family Association (NMFA), a nonprofit that works to strengthen and protect military families, and UnitedHealth Group, a diversified health and well-being company, announced today that they are hosting an event on September 16th titled “Growing Our Own – Meeting the Behavioral Health Needs of Military Families.”
This program will examine behavioral health challenges faced by military families. Speakers will also highlight innovative solutions to improve access to behavioral health care and meet the increasing demand for qualified health providers. The program will feature representatives from NMFA, UnitedHealth Group, and RAND.
Topics that will be covered during this discussion include:
- Advice for military spouses wishing to pursue a career in behavioral health
- Challenges faced in the private sector regarding the availability of behavioral health providers
- How military spouses can become part of the solution in meeting the increasing demand for behavioral health providers in their communities.
“Military spouses tell us all the time that they want to give back to their community. They know service members, veterans, and their families are seeking mental health support as they never have before and want help from someone who understands their lives,” said Joyce Raezer, Executive Director of NMFA. “Spouses also want a career that will enable them to find employment wherever the military takes them.”
“UnitedHealth Group and the United Health Foundation are honored to be a part of NMFA’s effort on behalf of military families,” said Cory Alexander, executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group. “We know there is a growing demand for experienced mental health professionals to support service members and their families. As a program partner and national sponsor of NMFA’s Military Spouse Scholarship program, we can help ensure the education of mental health professionals who bring to their work both a deep understanding of the military community, and the ability to relate to the needs of fellow spouses and service members.”
UnitedHealth Foundation funds an NMFA scholarship that enables military spouses to facilitate their accreditation in the growing mental health field.
“We appreciate this opportunity to work with the United Health Foundation to raise awareness about the need for more behavioral health support in the military community and the untapped potential of military spouses who choose careers in this field,” said Raezer.
The breakfast and panel discussion begin Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 8am in the Rayburn House Office Building.
