Washington Business Journal Names Gentle Giant Moving Company One of DC’s Healthiest Employers
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- Gentle Giant Moving Company is pleased to announce their selection by the Washington Business Journal as one of DC’s Healthiest Employers of 2014. In its fourth year, the Washington DC Healthiest Employers Awards will shine a light on local businesses of all sizes and industries that have made great efforts to create extraordinary Health & Wellness Programs for their employees. This marks the second time that the DC branch has been recognized for their wellness efforts, and the fifth time overall as a whole national company.
The Healthiest Employer Awards Program recognizes employee focused organizations striving to create the healthiest workplace and work force. Organizations apply for this acknowledgment by completing a detailed assessment tool that measures wellness programming in several categories, including culture and leadership commitment, communication and marketing, as well as the various programs and interventions available within the organization’s Health and Wellness Plan.
Since opening in 1980, Gentle Giant has advocated active and healthy lifestyles for its employees; most famously demonstrated by Founder and CEO Larry O’Toole taking new hires and longtime employees to the Harvard Stadium every week to run 37 flights of stairs. In DC and the other Regional Offices across the country, Gentle Giant managers have developed their own fitness challenges for new hires, including interviews being conducted during a 3 mile run.
“At Gentle Giant, we take Health and Wellness seriously but have a lot of fun doing it,” O’Toole explains. “Our feeling is that by taking care of our staff, they’ll in turn take care of our customers.”
Within the company’s DC moving warehouse, employees take full advantage of all wellness programs available, including the custom designed cross fit gym which boasts scheduled workouts for the operations team, a full time licensed chiropractor and personal trainer, as well as detailed progress report journals. Additionally, across Gentle Giant’s 19 nationwide locations, a Giant Health Week sponsored by the company allows employees to get free health screenings, participate in physical challenge competitions, and even get professional massages or acupuncture treatment.
Gentle Giant greatly looks forward to interacting with and learning from the other Healthiest Employers at the Awards Breakfast on September 18th at the Marriott Marquis.
