Boca Raton-based technology company, TouchSuite, has furnished The Lord’s Place Café Joshua with several of its highly advanced, restaurant-specific point of sale (POS) systems to use for job training among its formerly homeless clientele, as part of the non-profit’s food service apprentice program. The Lord’s Place, a community organization that offers comprehensive programs designed to end homelessness and enhance the delivery of health and human services, will use the POS units in accompaniment with its expert training, to prepare individuals in its apprentice program for various positions within the restaurant industry.
“TouchSuite is always looking to work with community partners that best fit our p hilanthropic goals and values. We were inspired by The Lord’s Place and its innovative approach to providing support to individuals who are eager to work but unable to find employment,” said TouchSuite founder and CEO, Sam Zietz. “But even though the organization maintains a talented team of program mentors, a familiarity with industry tools and technology is also important in today’s competitive landscape, even for an entry-level hospitality position. We realized we were in a unique position to support this effort by outfitting Café Joshua with our systems, which in turn, allows its apprentices to obtain work in Palm Beach County’s thriving restaurant and hospitality industry.”
“We are so grateful that TouchSuite has helped provide these important tools for our apprentices to learn state-of-the-art business practices in the food service industry,” said The Lord’s Place Director of Job Training and Education Eve Lyon. “Because they are having the opportunity be trained on the TouchSuite point of service system, they will be as competitive or maybe even more competitive when seeking a job. This is a real gift which will be beneficial to hundreds of our clients.”
There are more than 2,600 homeless or displaced individuals and families throughout Palm Beach County, many of who are actively working to improve their lives and find jobs. Some of the individuals who come to The Lord’s Place for support lack the educational and experiential background required for even an entry-level position at the start of their careers. Since the hospitality industry consistently ranks as one of greatest providers of employment in Palm Beach County, basic training in restaurant and hospitality-related fields makes our community an ideal place for individuals to attempt to get a fresh start at life. Since TouchSuite installed the systems more than one month ago, 20 front-of-the-house and culinary apprentices have utilized the new POS systems to date. During the next year, approximately 100 additional apprentices will benefit from training on the same systems.
