St. Louis Startup Invests in Local Manufacturing

Having recently expanded to a 16,000 sq. ft facility in Earth City, Missouri, local automotive lighting startup Diode Dynamics is looking to further grow their market share in the coming years. With their increased space, investment has been made to manufacture electrical components in-house, which will add some 10-20 jobs to the area over the next year.

Paul McCain, general manager and founder of Diode Dynamics, made the decision to purchase equipment that gives the company greater manufacturing capabilities. "Five years ago, people would call you crazy if you wanted to manufacture consumer electronics outside of Asia. Today, rising freight costs and increased worker productivity means it is finally cost-effective to manufacture in the United States." This will also allow the company to keep more jobs in St. Louis, with McCain expecting to hire 10-20 new employees over the next twelve months.

The future looks bright for Diode Dynamics. According to the Specialty Equipment Market Association, the specialty equipment industry has grown for the past four consecutive years, and now totals over $31 billion annually. “The most exciting segment right now is lighting, as new technologies are introduced on a monthly basis. In this fast-paced industry, we hope to continue making a name for ourselves as the leader in automotive lighting right here in St. Louis,” says McCain.
