Conquer Mobile to Speak at INTERFACE 2014 Health Conference on VR Surgical Simulation and Patient Safety
(PRWEB) September 18, 2014 -- Conquer Mobile, simulation training specialists, will address the topic of ‘Increasing Patient Safety with VR Surgical Simulation’ at the INTERFACE 2014 health conference in Vancouver.
INTERFACE 2014 is the only international health technology summit in Canada. It brings together educators and technology innovators to discuss the future of health. INTERFACE 2014 takes place September 29-30 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Aaron Hilton, CTO of Conquer Mobile, will present a case study following a cohort of neurosurgical residents learning how to perform Burr Hole brain surgery at the annual Dalhousie University ‘Rookie Camp’. The case study looks at the effect of simulation training on skills acquisition. Neurosurgery residents used PeriopSimTM, an iPad surgical simulation training product, to supplement traditional learning methods. He will also present current research in VR surgical simulation.
“Seeing neurosurgeons actively learning with PeriopSim brought the vision to life and really validated the concept.” said Aaron Hilton, CTO of Conquer Mobile. “The results were clear. Simulation training can enhance skills acquisition - in a safe environment, “ added Hilton. “For clinicians, this enables risk-free practice outside the OR. For patients this means increased safety within the OR.”
PeriopSim enabled neurosurgery residents to learn the steps and instruments of the Burr Hole procedure,” commented Dr. David Clarke, Surgeon and Head of Neurosurgery, Dalhousie University/Capital Health. “PeriopSim is valuable for any surgical resident or nurse who needs to prepare for an unfamiliar surgical procedure,” added Clarke.
