Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein gained national recognition for their investigative reporting on the initial Watergate break-in and the scandal that followed. Forty years and many books later, Woodward and Bernstein come together for one night only to give audiences a special look into the presidencies from Nixon to Obama. This event will be hosted by BRILLIANT, annual sponsor Tenenbaum and Co. and title sponsors Robert and Donna Bruni on Thursday, Sept. 25, at The Wortham Center at 7 p.m.
The date is June 17, 1972. Woodward and Bernstein arrive to work at The Washington Post. They receive an assignment to cover a break in at the Watergate office complex that occurred earlier that morning. Woodward and Bernstein’s investigation and subsequent articles about the Watergate scandal helped earn The Washington Post a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 1973. The following year, Woodward and Bernstein released their first book, titled “All The President’s Men.” This book later became the subject of the 1976 movie of the same name.
In the years following, Woodward and Bernstein continued on their paths to success. Together they have released almost 20 books, three of which Woodward and Bernstein co-authored about Watergate.
While working at The Washington Post, Woodward was instrumental in helping to earn the Post a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for its coverage of the 9/11 attacks. Woodward himself has earned almost every American journalism award, including The Heywood Broun award, Worth Bingham Prize for Investigative Reporting, Sigma Delta Chi Award, George Polk Award, William Allen White Medal, and the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Reporting on the Presidency.
Over the years, Bernstein has published three additional books, his most recent being a biography of Hillary Rodham Clinton titled, “A Woman In Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton.” His book became both a New York Times and national bestseller.
“BRILLIANT is honored to present this exclusive opportunity for Houston audiences to hear directly from Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein about their award-winning perspectives on people and events that have shaped our country. We anticipate that there will be very significant interest in these esteemed speakers and writers,” commented Scott Brogan, founder of BRILLIANT.
