Cerner’s HealthyNow Integration with Apple HealthKit Enables Sharp Health Plan Members to Sync Data across Multiple Apps

Sharp Health Plan members are among first consumers to take advantage of Apple HealthKit through the HealthyNow app from Cerner Wellness. The app's integration with Apple HealthKit lets users sync health data across multiple apps, letting apps work together to improve wellness.

Members of Sharp Health Plan, a top-ranked regional health plan based in Southern California, are among the first consumers to take advantage of Apple HealthKit through the HealthyNow app from Cerner Wellness™ for iPhone and iPod touch, which is now integrated with Apple’s iOS 8 software release.

Through HealthyNow’s intergration with HealthKit, iPhone and iPad touch users can gather the information they choose from various health apps and fitness devices. iOS 8 offers developers the ability for health and fitness apps to communicate with each other. With their permission, each app can use specific information from other apps to provide a more comprehensive way for users to manage their health and fitness.

“Cerner’s integration of HealthyNow with Apple HealthKit adds to an already impressive scale of functionality at the fingertips of our members and will keep Sharp Health Plan at the forefront of mobile health and wellness,” said Michael Byrd, Vice President, Chief Business Development Officer, Sharp Health Plan, which has more than 80,000 members in San Diego County. “Allowing our members’ health and fitness apps to work together and work harder for them in real time instead of after the fact is more convenient, more accurate and consistent with our broader mission to deliver our members’ best health, their way.”

Sharp Health Plan originally partnered with Cerner Wellness in January 2013 to launch a health and wellness app as a complement to its Cerner-developed online comprehensive wellness portal, Sharp Best Health. The HealthyNow app provides users on-the-go engagement tools to:

  •     Set and track exercise, nutrition and weight goals
  •     Earn rewards for healthy achievements
  •     Collaborate with teams on health goals, track progress and share encouragement
  •     Manage medication schedules
  •     Compete with others in health competitions

“In two years, more than 32 million consumers are expected to monitor their health and fitness online and it’s no surprise that, increasingly, they’re doing it through mobile technology,” said Brian Carter, General Manager of Cerner Wellness. “Cerner’s integration with Apple HealthKit means HealthyNow users and their health team can seamlessly track information from any number of health and wellness applications together, resulting in an up-to-date view of personal health habits and wellness goals.”

The HealthyNow app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch at http://www.AppStore.com.

Cerner is an authorized reseller of Apple products.
