New Android Reading Application from Helicon Books Enables Cloud-Based eBook Delivery, Copy Protection and Low-Cost DRM
(PRWEB) September 18, 2014 -- The latest version of Helicon Books’ Android-based EPUB3 reading application enables online book stores to send eBooks directly to customer applications without the need to send files or a download link via email. This development provides a cost effective solution to publishers and book store owners who wish to get the highest eBook protection without the high cost of conventional DRM or a white label application.
The new version contains a built in cloud connection. Book stores can send books directly to the cloud via a simple email message. Customers register and connect to the cloud using their mailing address and password.
Downloaded books are delivered to the user application for offline reading and are stored in an inaccessible memory space, providing high copy protection. If a customer connects to the cloud with two different devices, the system can synchronize book reading positions for books sent from stores.
The new application also enables customers to directly purchase eBooks from the app, with no need to visit the bookstore’s application or website, via OPDS. OPDS is an open standard allowing stores to send book lists directly to the reader application. Stores such as Feedbooks, O'Reilly, and many others already support it.
Helicon Books, the first company to market an EPUB3 reading application for Android, continues to innovate in this field. The new application is based on the Readium open source reading engine and thus conforms to EPUB3 standard.
Future versions will also allow stores to collect actual readership data for each book, allowing for better marketing intelligence.
Helicon Books will present this new reading application and other high end technologies for publishers at the International book fair in Frankfurt, Germany, October 8th - 12th 2014. Helicon Books will be at Hall 8, Booth F46.
Helicon Books reader can be downloaded from Google Play for free.
