Wonderlic Unites Employers, Career Educators and Competency-Based Education Experts to Help Narrow Skills Gap
Vernon Hills, IL (PRWEB) September 18, 2014 -- Demand for competency-based education (CBE) is surging for career programs as students seek more efficient routes to job placement and employers expect graduates to be “job-ready.” This trend could not have come at a better time as the economy grows and the need for skilled employees outpaces supply.
Working in collaboration with employers, career educators and competency-based education experts, Wonderlic has developed a unique approach to CBE implementation and direct assessment of learning outcomes. “Experience in helping 60,000 employers prequalify over 300 million job candidates gives us a clear understanding of the timeliness of CBE and the importance of incorporating actual hiring manager expectations,” said Michael Callans, Vice President of Research and Development. “Our goal is to help educators focus their instruction on the competencies that matter most to employers and ensure that students have mastered them.”
Larry Banks, Ph.D., a consultant for one of Wonderlic’s first competency-based clients and widely recognized CBE expert, recently joined the Wonderlic team. Dr. Banks will lead CBE career education initiatives.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Banks onboard as Wonderlic launches our suite of Competency-Based Implementation Services,” says Charlie Wonderlic, President and CEO. “As one of the field’s key thought leaders, his depth of expertise and insights will lay the groundwork in expanding our consulting initiatives that enable career educators to more effectively attract, retain and place their students.”
Dr. Banks’ accomplishments during his twenty-year tenure in higher education across the nation encompass online and blended learning, accreditation, student retention and program development. As associate provost at Western Governor’s University (WGU), Dr. Banks developed nationwide competency-based programs for all WGU colleges.
Most recently, Dr. Banks served as provost and vice president of operations of Daymar Colleges Group where he implemented four separate competency-based learning programs. Within just one year of launch, his initiatives led to record student retention rates, increased employer satisfaction and significantly reduced marketing spend, while generating improvements in student enrollment.
