Downtown D.C. Real Estate Market Expected to Thrive this Fall
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 19, 2014 -- The downtown Washington, D.C. real estate market will remain hot through the fall, with the Logan Circle, Palisades and Cleveland Park neighborhoods especially popular, having seen increases of more than 65 percent in dollar volume of sales over August 2013. In year-to-date numbers, while the suburban areas of Fairfax, Arlington and Montgomery County all saw average price increases ranging from 1-2 percent over the first eight months of 2013, the District’s average price rose more than six percent over 2013.
“When we compare the first eight months of 2014 with the same period last year, we see the downtown D.C. market as the bright light for real estate, compared to surrounding markets,” says Donna Evers, president and broker of Evers & Co. Real Estate, the largest independent, woman-owned real estate firm in metro Washington. “The area is popular because time is precious and people don’t want to spend half their lives commuting to work and driving long distances to stores.”
Throughout the close-in Washington DC region, most areas are running around 90 percent of dollar volume of sales from 2013 which was a blockbuster year in real estate, while the District of Columbia is at 110 percent of last year's first eight months of sales.
In addition to the impressive increase in sales, homes under $1 million are booming in popularity among buyers in the District of Columbia and close-in areas. “There’s more demand than supply in this price range, so this is a great time for sellers to put their home on the market,” says Evers.
