Northville, Mich. (PRWEB) September 17, 2014
Spider9, an advanced energy storage and controls company, announced today their selection as a participant in the 2015 Hawaii Energy Excelerator program. The Energy Excelerator is designed to accelerate the market adoption of participating companies’ emerging energy technology products’ in Hawaii.
The Energy Excelerator was formed in 2013 to further the goals of the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research, which works to address the challenges of Hawaii’s oil dependence. Financial support from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research have allowed the program to rapidly expand its size and impact. Each year, the Energy Excelerator selects a small group of innovative energy technology companies from hundreds of applicants to participate in their program.
“The Energy Excelerator’s extensive local market expertise, energy knowledge, and relationship sets will be invaluable as we bring our energy storage solutions to market in Hawaii,” said Glynne Townsend, Chief Executive Officer of Spider9. “Reliable, cost-effective energy storage will be key for Hawaii to meet its goal of 70% renewable energy by 2030, and we are excited that our enabling software and controls technology, OSE, will be part of the solution.”
The Energy Excelerator has served as a launch point for start-ups which span the clean technology space, from energy storage and biofuels to smartgrid and lighting.
"Hawaii is actively seeking solutions to integrate additional renewable resources and cost-effective energy storage solutions onto the grid," says Dawn Lippert, Director of the Energy Excelerator. "We're excited to work with Spider9 to deploy their unique controls system to help integrate solar and wind cost effectively, while reducing electricity prices for families and businesses."
