Michael McGuire Extends Appointment as Editor-in-Chief of Journal-AWWA
Denver (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- The American Water Works Association today announced that water expert and author Michael J. McGuire, PhD, PE, will continue his appointment as Editor-in-Chief for Journal -- American Water Works Association through June 2016. He has been handling the responsibilities of Interim Editor-in-Chief for the publication since June 2014.
Journal AWWA, published continuously since 1914, is AWWA’s flagship publication and includes both professional and scholarly content, publishing both peer-reviewed and nonpeer-reviewed articles.
“AWWA is delighted to have Mike McGuire continue to lead Journal-AWWA as Editor-in-Chief. He is a highly-esteemed professional with proven technical expertise, long-term service to AWWA and considerable skills as an editor,” said AWWA Director of Publishing Liz Haigh.
“I have enjoyed being a part of Journal-AWWA, and I am looking forward to continuing beyond the interim period so that there will be time to implement the changes we have been planning. It is an exciting time to be working on the publication,” said McGuire.
A professional engineer in California and Pennsylvania, McGuire’s career has included years of service at both drinking water utilities and consulting firms. He worked for the Philadelphia Water Department early in his career and then for 13 years at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. He founded and managed McGuire Environmental Consultants, Inc. from 1992 to 2005.
A widely published author and editor, McGuire most recently wrote the popular book The Chlorine Revolution: Drinking Water Disinfection and the Fight to Save Lives, published by AWWA. He has earned many AWWA awards over the years, including the John L. Leal Award in 2014, the A.P. Black Research Award in 2009, the Publications Award in 2001 and the George Warren Fuller Award in 1994.
McGuire has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and master’s and doctorate degrees in environmental engineering from Drexel University.
