Pearls with Purpose Participates in "BRAlapalooza" to Raise Funds and Awareness for a Cause
Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 19, 2014 -- BRAlapalooza annual fundraising gala and silent auction will be held this year at Cherry Hills Country Club on Oct. 4. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner and a program and a live auction beginning at 8 p.m.
The auctions will include decorated bras from local and national celebrities, dignitaries, media personalities, artists, athletes, designers, lingerie retailers and lingerie lovers, as well as more traditional auction items such as vacation packages, sporting event tickets, and jewelry.
All proceeds go to Free the Girls, a nonprofit organization headed by Kimba Langas that provides sustainable job opportunities for women and girls rescued from sex trafficking in developing third world countries. The foundation collects gently used bras and donates them to the women as starting inventory for their own business selling the bras. The program is designed to sustain itself after the initial donation, and selling bras allows the women flexibility to work as much or as little as their school schedule permits.
Emmy-nominated television personality Paige Davis is returning to host the event again this year. Best known as the star of TLC’s “Trading Spaces”, Ms. Davis is also a Broadway veteran, having appeared as Roxie in Chicago and Gloria in Boeing Boeing. More recently, Paige delighted audiences as host of “Home Made Simple” on the OWN network.
Many standout organizations have agreed to sponsor the event, including Pearls with Purpose, a Utah-based organization that teaches women in developing countries the art of jewelry making. Two years ago, Pearls With Purpose united with Kimba Langas and the Free the Girls team, bonding through the mutual passion for creating opportunities for self-reliance for women.
Pearls with Purpose created bras that are representative of the goals of their foundation and the women they empower to break out of poverty through self-reliance. They used pearls, crystals and gemstones that their women in Philippines, India and Cambodia use to create jewelry in their own micro-enterprises.
There will also be bra-shaped charms for sale at the fundraiser, part of Pearls With Purpose Pledge Program. The program invites all who seek out opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others to take a pledge to change lives worldwide. Whether it is through acts of service as simple as donating a bra, or efforts on a larger scale, Pearls With Purpose invite all to commemorate the evening with a bra-shaped charm that can be hung on a Pearls with Purpose Pledge charm necklace. The necklaces come with a pearl, one silver charm and an invitation to sign your name on the Pledge Wall. More charms can be added to commemorate other acts of service.
The charms and necklace are also available to purchase online.
