Coffee lovers are invited to try central Ohio’s latest cold-brew sensation at Crimson Cup’s Oktoberfest celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at 4541 N. High St. in Clintonville. Ohio Coffee Roaster Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea is introducing a cold-brew coffee with the hoppy taste and creamy texture of a fine craft stout – but without the alcohol. The roaster’s Dry Hopped Nitro cold brew will make its debut on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crimson Cup Coffee House, 4541 N. High Street in Clintonville.

“Driven by a commitment to craft beverages, our coffee team has been experimenting with different drink recipes that take advantage of the new nitrogen tap system at our coffee house,” said Crimson Cup Founder and President Greg Ubert. “After months of testing, they’ve produced a product perfect for the season!”

Crimson Cup’s coffee team includes Coffee Buyer Dave Eldridge, Coffee Training Specialist Brandon Bir and Coffee Quality Technician Chris Shegitz. A 20-year veteran of the beverage industry, Eldridge’s flair for innovation springs from serving as Crimson Cup’s roast master and as the brew master for a prominent local craft brewery. With over eight years of coffee experience, Bir has visited more than a dozen Central American coffee plantations to source great coffees, create direct farmer relationships and initiate community sustainability initiatives. Five years of home brewing experience have given Shegitz insight into the taste profiles that the right blend of hops can add to a great brew.

The team began development of the Hopped Nitro cold brew using Jorge’s Pick coffee beans, a Friend2Farmer selection from Guatemala. The addition of hops enhanced the coffee profile, offering a unique, new drink experience.

“The Hopped Nitro coffee is great addition to the tap system,” Eldridge said. “The nitrogen infused system pushes out the cold brew, giving the beverage the mouth-feel of a well-balanced stout.”

Bir said the coffee has a taste profile unlike any other. “Upon your first sip, you will notice the thick frothy head and heavy cocoa nose,” he said. “The hops lend a lot of floral and citrus notes, with undertones of fresh-cut herbs.”

Hopped Nitro cold brew will be served at the Coffee House from September 25 through October 31, or while supplies last. The cost is $3.50 for a pour in a special tulip-shaped glass. Customers may purchase the coffee and take home the limited-edition glass for $12.
