Automotive and Transportation Technology: Elasto Proxy Announces Plans to Attend IHS GlobalSpec Virtual Event on 9/24; Register Now, Then Look for Elasto Proxy’s Logo
Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada (PRWEB) September 22, 2014 -- Elasto Proxy, supplier of custom seals and specialty insulation, is announcing plans to attend IHS GlobalSpec’s Automotive and Transportation Technology on-line event on Wednesday, September 24. Register now, then look for Elasto Proxy’s logo in the on-line lobby on 9/24 to find sealing and insulation solutions for the automotive, mass transit and mobile specialty vehicles industries.
Now celebrating its 25th year, Elasto Proxy combines technical knowledge with application experience. At its world headquarters near Montreal, the custom fabricator uses state-of-the-art technologies such as water jet cutting, infrared (IR) film splicing, and automatic feeding for parts taping. The company also maintains sales offices in Ontario, Canada; Simpsonville, South Carolina (USA); and Shanghai, China.
Case Study: Automotive Parts Prototyping
As visitors to the Elasto Proxy booth will learn, the custom fabrication specialists recently teamed with an expert in 3D printing to cut tooling costs for a U.S.-based manufacturer of electric vehicles (EV). By providing a fast but cost-effective way to prototype parts, Elasto Proxy delivered a solution that provided a 95% cost savings on tooling.
First, the 3D printer made a replica of the part with PVC, a hard plastic. Using this 3D-printed part, Elasto Proxy then made a mold which allowed for the creation of a prototype needed for testing. However, this time the prototype was made of a softer, rubber material similar to EPDM. In this way, the prototype’s material properties were suitable for the EV manufacturer’s testing purposes.

Case Study: Rubber Door Seals for Rail Cars
As visitors to the Elasto Proxy booth will also learn, the sealing and insulation specialists redesigned a complex door seal for a leading manufacturer of rail cars. Selecting the right rubber for this part required a careful analysis of multiple factors. Cost and material properties were important, but the mass transit industry must also meet standards for flame, smoke, and toxicity (FST).
In addition to human health and safety, mass transit partners need to account for the demands of product testing. For example, door manufacturers use pull tests to ensure that passengers can extract items of clothing that become stuck between closed doors. By listening to all of the application requirements and understanding all of the partner’s needs, Elasto Proxy found the right solution.
