“The ASRM is proud to have Barb Collura as a member. She is a tireless advocate for infertility patients and has led RESOLVE to a whole new level of performance,” said Rebecca Sokol , MD, President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. “Caring for patients is what ASRM is all about, and Barb shows us that not all patient support occurs in a physician’s office.”
“I am honored to be selected for ASRM’s Distinguished Service Award, as it recognizes the strides RESOLVE has made in the infertility community,” said Collura. “ASRM as been an important collaborator with RESOLVE on our advocacy work, and I look forward to many more years working with their team.”
The Suheil J. Muasher, M.D., Distinguished Service Award recognizes and honors individuals or organizations that have provided distinguished service to the ASRM. Recipients are selected based on scientific, leadership, organizational, political, or societal service contributions to the ASRM, reproductive medicine, and/or reproductive medicine patients. Collura was chosen to receive the award for her demonstrated leadership and social and political service to reproductive medicine, reproductive medicine patients, and to ASRM since she became president/CEO in 2007. As president she has been impactful at representing the voices and interests of individuals with infertility, at motivating volunteers around the country to speak up about the disease, and at combating threatening legislation.
“Barbara is an inspiration to so many people in the infertility community, and we are delighted that ASRM is recognizing her far-reaching advocacy work. Without Barbara’s leadership, anti-family bills would have passed and our family building options would be limited in several states,” said Jane Castanias, RESOLVE Board Chair. “Since Barbara became President/CEO in 2007, RESOLVE has continually grown its partnerships, events, advocacy efforts, and outreach to people who need resources and support during their infertility journey. By recognizing Barbara’s leadership, ASRM’s medical and professional community recognizes the strength and importance of this charitable organization.”
Collura joined RESOLVE in September 2004 as the Director, Chapter & Constituent Services. In April 2007, Collura was named Chief Staff Officer of RESOLVE. As President/CEO, she represents RESOLVE at a number of national conferences, committees and organizations including ASRM, the National Committee on the Oversight of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (NCOART), and the National Health Council. As the official spokesperson for RESOLVE, Collura is frequently interviewed by the media and speaks at conferences and events on a variety of topics related to infertility. Collura is passionate about RESOLVE's mission as the organization was a source of support and information during her own battle with infertility.
