Sarah Lawrence College Upgrades to Mobile Interactive Campus Map System from CampusBird
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) September 20, 2014 -- Sarah Lawrence College has announced the new Sarah Lawrence College Campus Map, a mobile-friendly map that gives students, parents and other visitors—both online and in person—a rich interactive experience. The map was developed in conjunction with concept3D, Inc., developers of the CampusBird interactive mapping platform.
The Sarah Lawrence College Campus Map covers the breadth of the campus, with photos and detailed descriptions of such varied locations as academic halls, athletics facilities, student service centers, outdoor spaces, parking areas and Westlands, home of the president, deans and undergraduate admissions. Visitors can view the map on their smart phones and use it as a personal tour guide as they explore campus.
“We needed to allow people not just to view the map on a mobile device, but also to use their location to say ‘I am here’ and figure out quickly how to get to where they want to go,” said Winston Churchill-Joell, Director of Interactive Media at Sarah Lawrence. “It’s also very helpful for our campus visitors to be able to access an online, self-guided tour especially during off-hours. For the campus community, the map will help everyone and especially new and returning students get acquainted with the campus and where they need to go.”
Before implementing CampusBird, the college previously had begun to develop a map using internal resources and tools from third party vendors, such as a model of campus, Google renderings, and campus photography. Sarah Lawrence was able to use all that investment and, with CampusBird, wrap those tools in a more complete, more interactive and more mobile application.
“We continue to evolve and develop our Web presences and mobile is central to this,” Churchill-Joell said. “Mobile Web traffic is up triple digits for the third year in a row, and the trend is 150% year-over-year on average.”
Sarah Lawrence College has a strong reputation in the arts with a dedicated visual arts building and performing arts center. Churchill-Joell notes that being able to see the facilities where they will work and perform are critical in helping prospective students decide to apply.
“Sarah Lawrence College is a beautiful campus, and students often talk about the lasting impression the beauty of the grounds and the buildings made on them from their first visit,” Churchill-Joell added. “I’m happy that with CampusBird we’re able to help site visitors experience our campus and understand why they need to come and see it for themselves.”
