Great Place to Work® recognized AnswerLab for having one of the best workplaces in the United States on their annual 2014 Best Small & Medium Workplaces list. Winners of the recognition were published this week in FORTUNE magazine. Ranked #23, this is the third consecutive year AnswerLab has received this honor. Divided into two categories, Small (50-250 employees) and Medium (251-999 employees), the list has recognized companies with exceptional workplace cultures for the past eleven years.

AnswerLab, one of the nation’s leading user experience insights firms, participated in a rigorous selection process, which included an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about benefits programs and company practices. Great Place to Work® evaluates each application using its unique methodology based on five dimensions of a great workplace: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

In compiling the list, Great Place to Work® has found that employees believe they work for great organizations when they consistently trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with.

“We take a holistic approach to the AnswerLab employee experience that takes into account team members’ happiness in four key areas – career development, learning, wellness and giving back to the community” said Amy Buckner Chowdhry, AnswerLab CEO. “Creating a place where employees have a chance to grow in each of these areas is what allows our culture of innovation to thrive.”

As a leader in the User Experience field, where listening to the customer or user is central, it follows naturally that AnswerLab places a high value on both employee experience and the role of employees in creating a company culture that works for them. AnswerLab promotes a set of 7 core values that are the backbone of the company's culture. Employees actively participated in defining those values, and there are regular public acknowledgments to team members who model those values. Employee teams create an environment of continuous learning through frequent employee-programmed learning lunches and AnswerLab sponsors employee-driven giving back initiatives in the community.

AnswerLab's focus on the employee experience and maintaining a strong, constructive company culture has been accompanied by positive economic outcomes. This effort has borne out not just in employee satisfaction, but in economic growth for AnswerLab. For the 6th year in a row, the company was awarded a spot on the Inc. 5000 list of Fastest-Growing Private Companies in the country.

"The work of these companies is quite impressive,” said China Gorman, CEO of Great Place to Work®. “They provide an example that others can look to, to see what kind of outstanding workplace is possible—regardless of size, industry, or other circumstances. For example, the growth that many of these companies are experiencing is tremendous, and they are paying close attention to culture every step of the way. This focus on a strong cultural foundation will help pave the way for continued success as they serve their employees and their customers.”
Organizations named on the list see many benefits that include better financial performance, less employee turnover, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty, more innovative and creative thinking, higher productivity and enhanced public perception.
