'Simply wonderful’ is the only way to describe the whales in the Central Pacific; a unique and very special experience that offers a true marine spectacle.

Tulemar Vacation Homes, in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica, is a resort known for its abundance of wildlife. Monkeys, sloths, toucans, iguanas and more can be seen on a daily basis throughout the grounds; more recently, though, visitors have reported whale sightings in the Tulemar Bay area, a less common occurrence.

"’Simply wonderful,’ is the only way to describe the whales in the Central Pacific; a unique and very special experience that offers a true marine spectacle,” comments one of Tulemar’s personal concierges, Chris Madrigal.

These mammals visit the Central Pacific shores beginning late December until March and late July through October. Larger populatiosn arrive in Costa Rica’s bays further south, with a clear mission; to find adequate depths and temperatures to breed and give birth to their calves. They nurse their calves for about a week before continuing their migration in the open ocean.

Bahía Ballena Marine National Park is a 40 minute drive from Tulemar, and is one of the country's top attractions. The park’s natural design is of a whale tail, which coincidentally, is destination point for these cetaceans.

Seen in this area are humpback whales, orca whales, and pilot whales; likewise, a wide range of marine species such as bottlenose, spotted, and common dolphins, along with green, olive ridley, and hawksbill sea turtles.

Whales from northern and southern hemispheres visit this part of the country during this time of year, oftentimes some of them covering distances of up to 11,000 miles or 18,000 kilometers, making for one of the farthest migrations of any animal.

Tulemar Vacation Homes promotes and encourages awareness of the importance of these Jewels of Nature, and invites guests to observe and protect them. Tulemar’s personal concierges are happy to arrange a variety of whale watching activities for guests which allow for a more up-close-and-personal experience.
