Tim G. Cook Receives Jack F. Derrickson Award for Outstanding Course Leadership
Malvern, PA (PRWEB) September 22, 2014 -- Tim G. Cook, CPCU, ARM, is the 2014 recipient of the Jack F. Derrickson Award for Outstanding Course Leadership, given by The Institutes. The Derrickson Award is presented annually and honors a teacher of insurance courses whose students pass The Institutes’ examinations at a rate higher than the national average over an extended period of time.
With more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, Cook currently works as the director of the Risk and Insurance Studies Center, School of Business, Virginia Commonwealth University. Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a specialty in risk management and insurance from Michigan State University and the following professional designations: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®), Associate in Risk Management (ARM™), Associate in General Insurance (AINS®), Associate in Management (AIM™), Associate in Underwriting (AU™) and Senior Claim Law Associate (SCLA).
Cook has been an instructor for 15 years, leading courses for the CPCU, AIC, ARM and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS®) designation programs and The Institutes’ Introduction to Property-Casualty Insurance course. He is a member and past president of both the Richmond CPCU Society Chapter and the Professional Claim Association of Richmond.
Each year, The Institutes provide for the Derrickson Award winner and a guest to attend The Institutes’ annual CPCU conferment ceremony during the CPCU Society Annual Meeting—to be held this year in Anaheim, California—at which the recipient is presented with a check for $250 and a Derrickson Award plaque.
This award is named for the late Jack F. Derrickson, CPCU, who served for more than 40 years as a grader of The Institutes’ examinations and for many years as a course leader. Derrickson, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 92, funded this award to recognize excellence in course leadership.
