American Banker Honors The Most Powerful Women in Banking and Finance of 2014
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2014 -- American Banker has announced the honorees for the 2014 Most Powerful Women in Banking. The 12th annual ranking is published online at AmericanBanker.com/Women-in-Banking and will be featured in the October issue of American Banker Magazine, along with the Most Powerful Women in Finance and 25 Women to Watch lists.
Beth Mooney, KeyCorp chairman and chief executive officer, tops the Most Powerful Women in Banking list for the second consecutive year. Mooney made history in 2011 as the first female to become Chairman and CEO of a top 20 U.S.-based bank.

Karen B. Peetz, president of BNY Mellon, took the second spot on the Women in Banking list this year. Peetz oversees global and regional client management, treasury services, human resources, growth initiatives and innovation, as well as the most complex regulatory issues. She drove several new initiatives within BNY Mellon, such as a formal internal innovation program. Ideas implemented from the innovation program alone have contributed $180 million in pretax revenue for the bank in 2013.
Rounding out the top three Women in Banking 2014 honorees is Marianne Lake, chief financial officer of JPMorgan Chase. She is the highest-ranking woman at JPMorgan Chase and, last year, navigated a tough regulatory environment, overseeing the company’s stress-testing process and its $13 billion mortgage settlement.

Mary Callahan Erdoes, the CEO of JPMorgan Asset Management, is No. 1 on the Women in Finance list again this year. Erdoes oversees the management of $2.4 trillion in client assets, which contributed 11 percent to the country’s largest banking company’s revenue and net income last year.
The president of FMR (parent company of Fidelity Investments), Abigail Johnson, and Ruth Porat, CFO at Morgan Stanley, complete the top three rankings on the Most Powerful Women in Finance list this year.
The 25 Women to Watch includes both emerging female talent in banking and industry veterans who have taken on new roles within the past year. Topping this year’s list is Jane Fraser, CEO, CitiMortgage and CEO, U.S. Consumer and Commercial Banking, Citigroup, who took on her new position this year.
American Banker also each year assembles a list of institutions at which female leadership teams are having a significant impact on performance, and where there is a high level of commitment to the development and promotion of female talent. Banks honored for having the Top Teams in Banking this year are Bank of America, BMO Harris Corp., Bank of the West, Zions Bancorp., and Citizens Bank of Edmond (Okla.).
Margot Copeland, KeyCorp executive vice president, director of Philanthropy and Civic Engagement, and chair and CEO of KeyBank Foundation, will receive the Community Impact Award, which honors a woman in banking who has effectively brought innovative strategies and personal compassion to her role to make a significant difference in the world around her.
In addition, Irene Dorner, group managing director, president and CEO, HSBC USA, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
All of this year’s honorees will be celebrated at an October 9 dinner and awards ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, hosted by American Banker and parent company SourceMedia. The evening event will explore the influence that women exert as they rise to key executive roles in the banking industry, especially the impact they have on the workplace and society as a whole.
