ArtBark Dallas 2014 – Texas Health Dallas Presbyterian Nurses join together for ArtBark 2014!

What happens when THREE Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas nurses join their TWO charitable organizations together, ArtBark and On Butterflies Wings for ONE fundraising event? You get…ARTBARK DALLAS 2014!

Two Texas Health Registered Nurses; Mandy Dalto, Adult ICU and Thao Nguyen, Neonatal ICU, created ArtBark in 2012. They each, in addition to caring for patients in their roles as nurses, love photography and want to “give back” to the community. People were invited to bring their pets to ArtBark and be photographed with Santa Claus by several local photographers who also donated their time and talent. In addition to funds raised by portrait donations, several vendors were on hand to contribute as well. Proceeds were given to local dog rescue organizations.

This year, ArtBark founders Nguyen and Dalto, decided to partner with another fellow Texas Health Nurse, Erin Prendergast who founded On Butterflies Wings in 2010.

On Butterflies Wings is a down-to-earth organization that is all about HOPE! Prendergast, a registered nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas for over 15 years has worked at the Peggy A. Bell Women’s Diagnostic & Breast Center for the last seven. She combines her passion for gardening and compassion for her patients to bring HOPE to women with breast cancer. Since 2010, she has raised over $22,000 to benefit the Texas Health Resources Foundation. The funds will be used to build a healing garden outside of the new comprehensive cancer center soon to open at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas.

“Support in this endeavor will provide a wonderful space for patients and their families and will symbolize the effort of many individuals and organizations that have partnered with On Butterflies Wings,” said Prendergast. “I am so excited to partner with Mandy and Thao for ArtBark this year! It’s in the spirit of nursing and the spirit of community that we hope to have a huge turnout for this year’s ArtBark event!”

ArtBark Dallas will be held on Sunday, October 5, from 1-4 pm at NORTH DALLAS VETERINARY HOSPITAL at 3452 Forest Lane. The event will offer FREE pet portraits, local vendors and pet rescues. There will also be chaplains on hand to bless animals and noted Dallas psychic and fortuneteller Valentina Burton, who has been a divination practitioner for three decades, focusing on the ancient arts of astrology, tarot card reading and palmistry. “She will be there to answer all of life's questions regarding people and their pets,” an organizer said.

Owners are encouraged to dress their pets in costumes and themselves as well for holiday pet portraits with Santa. Visitors will get to meet and greet local dog rescues and enjoy music courtesy of local DJ, Dan Beaty, also a Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas employee who works in the Operating Room as an Anesthesiology Technician.
