West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 24, 2014
Today, Jacqueline Delgado, South Florida immigration attorney and managing member of the Delgado Law Group based in West Palm Beach, Florida, announced that she will be providing pro-bono legal assistance for some of the children held at the Artesia, New Mexico detention facility in their deportation proceedings in an effort to aid the children that are by-products of this present-day humanitarian crisis on September 22th through September 27th.
Ms. Delgado, a long-standing member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association who is also a member of the Palm Beach County Liaison Committee for the Association, recognizes the urgency and need for legal assistance for the unaccompanied minors seeking asylum in Artesia, New Mexico: “This is a humanitarian crisis. These children need help and deserve to be treated with care and dignity. They deserve proper representation and due process. My intention is to ‘pay it forward’ and provide pro bono legal assistance to these traumatized kids.”
When asked what she anticipates, she answered, “Chaos. I think this will be the most chaotic courtroom I’ve seen in a very long time. Just based on the sheer volume of cases and complexity of the backgrounds and circumstances that prompted these children to make their way to the United States without any parent or guardian to protect them; I expect this experience to be eye-opening. Many of these children have been assaulted, hurt or otherwise injured, and as a mother, I feel protective over them already.”
Even knowing the challenges she faces as an immigration attorney representing these children, she is undeterred. “Their welfare, their futures, are in our hands. They are begging for help… and America was founded on the principles of helping the needy. Who could be more in need than a homeless child that’s been put through that type of experience?”
Attorney Delgado, whose practice is based in West Palm Beach, Florida, is the daughter of Cuban immigrants herself, is multi-lingual, and able to communicate well with the children who do not understand or speak English. She will be making the journey to the New Mexico border and providing advocacy for these children on September 25th and 26th in an effort to assist children who are otherwise homeless and scared in deportation proceedings.
