OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center to Honor Tony Award Nominee Desmond Richardson; Best-Selling Author, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson; Bella Luna Restaurant & Milky Way Lounge
(PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- On Saturday October 4, 2014 OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center (http://www.originationinc.org) will present: Twist and Shout! An Evening of Dance, Spoken Word, and Music to celebrate its 20th Anniversary and honor artists and businesses that are making a real difference in their communities.
This year’s honorees include Tony Award Nominee and international dance icon, Desmond Richardson and world-renown choreographer, Dwight Rhoden, co-founding artistic directors of New York City-based Complexions Contemporary Ballet; best-selling author and scholar, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson; and Bella Luna Restaurant & Milky Way Lounge, Boston’s premiere eatery and community service hub.
Twist & Shout! will also feature youth from OrigiNation’s professional dance companies performing original African and Contemporary works choreographed by its Founding Artistic & Executive Director, Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga and the company’s resident director, Muadi B. Dibinga set to recorded music by various artists including Heather Headley, Pat Benatar and the Aretha Franklin. Dibinga will also perform on stage for the first time in 10 years along side current and past members of OrigiNation’s senior company.
“This is definitely going to be a night to remember!” says Dibinga. “Dr. Dyson is one of today’s most prolific scholars and commenters on African American contemporary culture. We are humbled that he accepted our invitation to be honored.” She adds, “Complexions has been a friend of OrigiNation since the beginning. In fact, both dance companies are celebrating 20th Anniversaries this year. We are thrilled that the company’s founders will be with us as we mark this milestone. We are also delighted to honor Bella Luna for their incredible work in the community. For over 20 years they have served as a hub for the social justice and creative arts movement in Boston through their generous sponsorships and innovative music programming. We are looking forward to publicly thanking them for all they do.”

About OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center
Founded in 1994, OrigiNation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit performing arts program that utilizes dance as a vehicle to develop leadership, confidence and self-sufficiency among boys and girls ages 3-18 from underserved communities with limited access to quality dance and theater programs is limited. OrigiNation serves over 300 boys and girls annually through its on-site programs. It serves an additional 5,000 youth through its domestic and international outreach, education and touring programs.
