Riccardo Ippolito, of Northern California's VIB Law, Announces Contribution to Criminal Defense Anthology
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 30, 2014 -- Attorneys Patrick Valencia, Riccardo Ippolito and Cameron Bowman have been criminal defense attorneys in Northern California for several decades. All three have been working as a team for the last four years while the two original founders of the firm, Valencia and Ippolito, have been practicing together for almost two decades.
Unlike many law firms with multiple partners, VIB Law has an exclusive focus on criminal defense at the local, state and federal level. Ippolito says "criminal defense firms are normally composed of solo practitioners. Of those firms that have several practitioners at the helm, one or more of the attorneys typically practice some other areas of the law. Our firm is solely focused on criminal defense."
With Ippolito's recent contribution to "Strategies for Defending Sex Crimes: Leading Lawyers on Understanding the Current Sex Crimes Environment and Building a Thorough Defense" (Aspatore Books, 2014), the firm reaffirms its commitment to criminal defense. In his contribution to the collection, "Overcoming Challenges in Sex Crimes Defense Cases," Ippolito draws upon his experience representing clients accused of sex crimes.
"Though I represent clients charged with a wide variety of crimes, I focus on these cases because the penalties can be so harsh if the accused is convicted. A sex crimes conviction, with the exception of homicide, involves the most brutal penalties," the attorney and author says. "Everyone deserves a robust criminal defense but people faced with sex crimes charges are particularly vulnerable. I wrote this article to help other criminal defense attorneys provide the most effective defense of their clients' constitutional rights."
But, Ippolito concedes, "there is no secret formula for providing rigorous criminal defense. Each case is different and every attorney brings their own unique attributes to the defense of their clients' rights. My article simply represents my experience and my interpretation of the current legal environment. I hope it can serve as another tool for criminal defense attorneys who may have clients facing decades in prison if they are convicted."
Ippolito's chapter offers a detailed overview of the challenges involved in these cases. Some of the headings throughout the piece include: "Dealing with the District Attorney," "Recent Case Law Rulings," "Unique Characteristics of Sex Crimes," and "Putting Together an Effective Strategy in a Sex Crimes Case." Throughout the piece, Ippolito discusses a variety of strategies for dealing with the challenges of sex crimes defense.
In the article, the attorney offers this piece of advice in the conclusion: In addition to being familiar with precedent, recent changes to the law, and other information that can be obtained through research, "you need to talk to and really get to know the client. After one or two meetings, the client may come up with information that you did not know before" such as information they forgot about or were uncomfortable revealing before. Through close and thorough communication, attorneys can obtain a unique advantage for the defense of their clients.
Ippolito's article, and the others included in the collection, may provide invaluable insight. From practicing criminal defense attorneys with decades of experience to law students with no courtroom experience to people accused of crimes, a wide variety of audiences may find the collection extremely useful.
