New Resources from Northwest Evaluation Association Connect Assessment Results to Classroom Instruction
PORTLAND, OR (PRWEB) October 09, 2014 -- Educators in more than 7,400 schools and districts now have access to personalized instructional resources linked to student scores from the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) assessment, the not-for-profit Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) announced today. A new collaboration with trusted content provider Khan Academy will enhance teacher and student access to open educational resources (OERs) tied to each learner's needs.
Teachers can now use an individual student's RIT score from MAP and MAP for Primary Grades (MPG), NWEA's flagship computer adaptive assessment, to identify instructional resources in Math via Khan Academy. The scores are immediately available to students after they take MAP or MPG, and are provided to NWEA school and district partners.
Khan Academy resources, which are aligned to the Common Core State Standards, are designed to help students improve their conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and real-world application.
NWEA has also made MAP assessment data directly actionable for teachers through significant enhancements to its dynamic Learning Continuum tool. An interactive resource for teachers, the Learning Continuum uses MAP assessment data to help teachers understand what a student is typically ready to learn next, so critical for differentiating instruction and increasing academic growth.
Teachers value MAP for its ability to precisely measure each student's achievement, independent of grade level, helping to create an individual learning path. As students answer test questions correctly, they receive more challenging questions. Should a student answer a question incorrectly, he or she will get an easier question. In this way, MAP helps identify a student's current achievement level, and when taken over time, MAP can demonstrate student growth. So whether the student is a third grader performing at a fifth grade level, or a fifth grader performing at a third grade level, MAP is able to track achievement and growth.
"Our collaboration with Khan Academy and updates to the Learning Continuum are intended to help us better support teachers in the classroom," noted Matt Chapman, NWEA president and CEO. "We're committed to continuing to expand what we can do to help translate assessment results into personalized instruction for every student."
