Timmons Group Congratulates the Town of Ashland on Their Grant Award
Richmond, Virginia (PRWEB) September 24, 2014 -- Timmons Group congratulates the Town of Ashland on its 2014 National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed grant award.
NFWF and the Chesapeake Bay Program celebrated the announcement of this year’s Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund grants, supporting efforts to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay, at a ceremony in Ashland on September 23.
The Board of Directors of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) announced its approval of an award of $200,000 to the Town of Ashland to support the Ashland Police Department Water Quality Retrofits project. The project is located at the Ashland Police Department at the outfall of 82 acres of storm sewer at the headwaters of a tributary to Mechumps Creek. Project activities will include conversion of an impervious parking lot using permeable pavers, stream restoration of the channel next to the lot, and changing the overflow lot to reduce impervious area.
Timmons Group staff, Aislinn Creel and Rebecca Napier, assisted the Town with preparation and submission of the NFWF grant application package. They also assisted the Town with completion of its application for Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) 2013 Stormwater Local Assistance Fund (SLAF) grant. SLAF funding provides matching grants to local governments for the planning, design, and implementation of stormwater best management practices that prioritize cost efficiency and water quality pollutant load reduction. The Town received $157,500 in 2013 SLAF funds to combine with the NFWF grant for their retrofit project.
“We are thrilled that this very exciting and ecologically rewarding project is supported by NFWF and the Virginia DEQ. The Town of Ashland is a valued Timmons Group client and we’re pleased to assist them in continuing to implement green retrofit projects,” said Aislinn Creel, Senior Stormwater Specialist in the firm’s Infrastructure Division.
