It’s incredible to watch that talent grow to an international level; from the World Cup soccer team, to our local surfers and bodyboarders, and the PRO rafting team from our own, Manuel Antonio. We’re proud to help support their endeavors.

Costa Rica plans to return to Brazil this October, and this time they won’t be headed to the soccer field. The country’s national champions will make their way to Brazil’s Iguazu River to compete in the 2014 R4 World Rafting Championships.
Manuel Antonio’s PRO Rafting team became Costa Rica’s national champions this past May at the 2014 Teva Rafting Cup on the Naranjo River, about 35 minutes away from Tulemar Resort. The championship consisted of 10 teams from different areas throughout Costa Rica and took place over the course of three days.
Since then, the PRO Rafting team has been preparing for the World Championships in Brazil. Part of this includes raising enough funds to send their members abroad.
“There’s so much talent in this small community,” observes Dave Houck, owner of Tulemar Vacation Homes Rentals & Sales. “It’s incredible to watch that talent grow to an international level; from the World Cup soccer team, to our local surfers and bodyboarders, and the PRO rafting team from our own, Manuel Antonio. We’re proud to help support their endeavors.”
To raise money for their upcoming venture to Brazil, the rafting team has collaborated with local businesses in Manuel Antonio that will host small fundraisers or offer donations.
Local restaurants Ronny’s Place and Barba Roja, located right next door to Tulemar, have both offered dinner specials and live music to raise funds for the local rafting team. “We make sure to let our guests know about these events. It’s a perfect opportunity for great time and a good cause,” comments Houck.
Costa Rica was also represented at the 2013 World Rafting Championships in New Zealand, and was host for the World Championships in 2011. Frommer’s travel guide listed Costa Rica to have one of the “Top 10 Whitewater Rafting Destinations in the World.”
The 2014 R4 World Rafting Championships will take place October 8-19 in Foz de Iguaçu City, Brazil.
