Holland & Hart Partner Elected Chair of Make-A-Wish Colorado
Denver, Colo. (PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- Holland & Hart Partner Dennis Brown has been elected Chair of the Make-A-Wish Colorado® board. He has served on the board since 2007.
Brown said he became involved with Make-A-Wish in memory of his deceased sister-in-law who co-founded one of the first chapters of Make-A-Wish in South Florida 31 years ago. Nancy lived and breathed Make-A-Wish and always shared with the family countless stories of the joy the organization brings by granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. After Nancy lost her own battle with cancer eight years ago, Brown decided to keep Make-A-Wish a part of his family by dedicating his time and expertise in service on the board of directors.
When Brown initially reached out to volunteer and told them of his connection to Nancy Strom, the organization immediately recognized her name, and said, “If you’re Nancy Strom’s brother-in-law, we have a place for you.”
“So, in a shameless display of nepotism, I joined the board of the Colorado Chapter soon thereafter,” Brown said.
The Make-A-Wish Colorado Board of Directors’ responsibilities include setting strategic governance priorities and monitoring chapter performance benchmarks, selection and evaluation of new board members and the chief executive, approving and monitoring budgets, fundraising support and fiscal stewardship, and legal oversight.
Bown’s areas of legal practice include civil litigation, product liability, and personal injury litigation.
Following law school, Brown clerked for Chief Justice Paul V. Hodges of the Colorado Supreme Court. He then spent four years as a Deputy District Attorney in Jefferson County, Colorado, before entering private practice.
He taught legal ethics as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and is currently serving as a member of the First Judicial District Nominating Commission, the body that interviews applicants and then recommends individuals to the governor for consideration and appointment
