Chem-Trend Howell Headquarters Takes Part in Freudenberg’s First North America Service Day
Howell, Mich., (PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- Freudenberg companies in North America are participating in the first regional Service Day on September 26, 2014. On that day, all Freudenberg locations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico will conduct a corporate service activity of their choice. As part of the Freudenberg Group, Chem-Trend is participating in the service day with sponsorship of a new study area at the Howell Teen Center.
The Teen Center, located inside the Barnard Community Center at 415 N. Barnard Street in Howell, is managed by the Howell Area Parks and Recreation Authority and provides a socially safe and healthy environment for middle and high school students.
“The Freudenberg Service Day gives all of our employees the opportunity to support their local communities. It reminds us of our Guiding Principles – the connecting thread between all Freudenberg companies. These Guiding Principles direct our commitment to being responsible corporate citizens in all communities and in all countries where we do business,” says Leesa Smith, Freudenberg North America president and regional representative.
Chem-Trend and its Howell employees are providing a variety of resources to establish an enhanced student study area. The new area will expand on the limited study space that was previously part of the Teen Center, and will include a library and renovated space dedicated to studying and collaborative work.
Leading up to the event on September 26, employees are collecting and donating books and school supplies needed for the center. Then, on the service day, a group of employees will deliver the supplies and set up the new study area, which will also include new furniture, bookshelves, lighting, decorations and storage donated by Chem-Trend.
“As part of our commitment to being responsible corporate citizens, Chem-Trend is honored to provide local teens a dedicated place in a welcoming environment that fosters learning and scholastic development for students,” said Devanir Moraes, Chem-Trend president and CEO. “We are pleased to participate in such a valuable project for our area youth. Perhaps some of these students will become future colleagues at Chem-Trend.”
Throughout the project, Chem-Trend partnered with the Livingston County United Way and its Volunteer Livingston program to coordinate the initiative. Additional support was provided by Interior Environments, based in Novi, Michigan, with design and furnishing services for the study area.
“Working with the teens and staff at the Teen Center has been a rewarding opportunity for our employees,” said Bret Miller, vice president and general manager for Chem-Trend North America. “Thanks to the Parks and Recreation Authority, the United Way and our community partners, we are privileged to contribute toward improving education and literacy for our local youth.”
At the Teen Center, students have the opportunity to study, socialize, play games and watch movies. Through the donations of Chem-Trend, its employees and community partners, students will now also have access to a small library of reference and fiction books, tutorial guides and college preparatory materials, as well as essential school supplies, expanded work spaces and comfortable seating that will allow them to focus on their studies.
Freudenberg’s 12 business groups, represented through 15 different businesses, are active throughout North America. Each of these businesses regularly engages in corporate social responsibilities in their respective communities. On this dedicated service day, however, some 8,000 employees spread across more than 80 locations will have a chance to simultaneously take part in a variety of activities, from blood drives and non-perishable food collections to neighborhood clean-up efforts and support of educational institutions, highlighting the Freudenberg Group’s commitment to being a good neighbor.
