‘A Radiant Light’ Tiffany Exhibition Takes Flight at San Francisco International Airport Museum
Alameda, CA (PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- A spectacular exhibition exploring the decorative works and glass artistry of Louis C. Tiffany is now on view exclusively at San Francisco’s International Airport from July 18, 2014 to Jan. 23, 2015. The exhibition, titled “A Radiant Light: The Artistry of Louis C. Tiffany,” features masterworks from Japan’s famed Garden Museum Collection. This museum assemblage is largely known as one of the finest Tiffany museum collections to have ever existed. The exhibition will explore choice pieces from the former museum as well as fine Tiffany works from other private collection sources. On display are nearly 100 objects from the workshops of Louis C. Tiffany, including windows, lamps, mosaics, paintings, vases and bronze accessories.
The exhibition has been made possible through a generous loan from Michaan’s Auctions. Co-curator and Michaan’s Auctions President Allen Michaan selected exquisite pieces specifically for the airport show. Among the works on display will be a magnificent Cobweb table lamp (one of only seven known to exist), a one-of-a-kind Zinnia table lamp, a Peacock stained glass window panel, oil paintings, glass vases and rare ceramics. The SFO Airport Museum is a fully accredited venue.
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) was undoubtedly the most inventive and prolific designer of the 19th century. Once declaring that his lifelong passion was “the pursuit of beauty,” he was a creative pioneer in the development of new methods of decorative glass production. In 1893, Tiffany introduced “Favrile” glass to the world, which quickly gained recognition for its never-before-seen iridescence and brilliance of color. He also formed his own distinct decorative style, often playing out as a hybrid of nature motifs hued by intoxicating colors. Louis Comfort Tiffany continues to be largely regarded as the most prestigious stained glass artist and designer known to the craft.
“A Radiant Light: The Artistry of Louis C. Tiffany” is located pre-security in the International Terminal Main Hall Departures Lobby at SFO. The exhibition is free and open to the public through Jan. 23, 2015. For more information, please visit http://www.flysfo.com/museum.
