Ecotourism Company Expedition Travel Becomes Division of Holbrook Travel
Gainesville, Fla. (PRWEB) October 03, 2014 -- After 20 years as an independent agency, Expedition Travel has partnered with Holbrook Travel as a division dedicated to natural history, collecting, and scientific ecotours.
Expedition Travel was established in 1995 by McGuire Center for Lepidoptera & Biodiversity’s Founding Director Dr. Thomas Emmel. For many years prior, Dr. Emmel collaborated with the founder of Holbrook Travel, Mrs. Giovanna Holbrook, to lead and develop numerous collecting, Lepidoptera, and other general natural history trips through Holbrook Travel. After becoming an independent operation, Expedition Travel continued to offer small-group journeys to unusual destinations with professional naturalists and scientists as trip leaders.
Both companies have built their reputations on placing educational enrichment and sustainable tourism as top priorities when organizing travel programs.
“We have a very long history with Holbrook, so in a sense, we are coming full circle to return to the company that gave Expedition Travel its beginnings,” said Emmel. “For many years I traveled with my friend Giovanna Holbrook, and together the two of us shared the world with many curious minds, including the young Andrea Holbrook who is now president at Holbrook Travel.”
Established in 1974, Holbrook Travel is a highly regarded educational travel provider specializing in ecotourism across Latin America, Africa, and other destinations around the globe. Based in Gainesville, Fla., Holbrook works with numerous Audubon chapters, museums, botanical gardens, universities, high schools, and other conservation and natural history organizations to provide customizable and enriching expeditions. Holbrook is also a major international program provider for Road Scholar and owns Selva Verde Lodge, an eco-lodge and 500 acre private rainforest reserve in Costa Rica.
“There’s no doubt that as our new educational adviser, Dr. Emmel’s scientific knowledge and roots in the academic community will influence and enrich all of Holbrook’s trips, and I’m especially excited about the potential for our high school and college programs,” said Andrea Holbrook. “Our experience and connections in the travel industry have opened up a new world of opportunities for Expedition Travel’s clients as well, so it’s going to be beneficial for everyone.”
For past clients of Expedition Travel, the new partnership means immediate access to Holbrook Travel’s services and a wider variety of destinations going forward. Dr. Emmel will continue to be personally involved in leading many trips annually and will maintain an integral role in planning future Expedition Travel programs, all of which will remain open to the public.
Coming up soon are trips to Antarctica, Tanzania, Peru, the Galápagos Islands, Madagascar, and one of Expedition Travel’s highly acclaimed annual journeys to Mexico to witness the migration of monarch butterflies.
