Seven accomplished industry leaders and public servants have joined the SAE Foundation Board of Trustees for three-year terms. These seven new members bring a great deal of diversity and insight to the SAE Foundation as they represent a variety of private and public sector organizations.

The new SAE Foundation Trustees include:
- Shanti Ariker, Area Marketing Counsel, salesforce.com
Shanti manages a team of lawyers responsible for negotiating customer agreements throughout North America. During her 20 years practicing law, Shanti has also held positions in legal departments in Celestica and E*TRADE, as well as several private practice positions in US law firms. Shanti received her Bachelors in English and Economics from University of Massachusetts, Boston and her law degree from the University of Virginia.
As a strong supporter of the importance of education she is involved with a number of activities that promote and provide educational activities, including helping to implement SAE International’s A World in Motion® program in schools in Toronto, Canada.
- Alison Bazil, Manager of Global Learning and Development, Ford Motor Company
Alison has been with Ford Motor Company for 25 years and currently holds the position of Manager of Global Learning and Development for Product Development and Quality. In this role, she is responsible for the performance growth of the PD and Quality workforce including strategy, technology, funding and learning solution creation. In addition to learning and development, Alison is also a lead advisor for Ford’s recently established STEM Initiative. She is working with Ford’s STEM Manager to establish strategy and oversee funding decisions to reinforce the STEM pipeline.
- Frederick M. Cartwright Jr., Executive Director, Clemson University, International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR)
Prior to joining CU-ICAR in 2013, Frederick (Fred) spent 32+ years at General Motors, including assignments in manufacturing, engineering, planning, corporate development and M&A. Most recently, he served as Director of Corporate Development, at GM’s headquarters in Detroit, developing and negotiating partnerships in areas of new technology and products. Prior to that Fred led a “new business development” function in General Motors, with responsibility for monetizing intellectual property and developing strategic alliances, which resulted in a year in Europe as Vice President for Alliances and New Business Development, focused on the European market.
Fred holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an MBA from Butler University, Indianapolis.
- John Clark, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Aisin World Corp. of America
As the Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, John and his team are principally responsible for Original Equipment sales, Sales and Product Planning in North America. He reports directly to the president.
In addition to direct customer contact, Clark oversees interface between AWA team members and Aisin’s North American plants in order to meet quality, delivery and customer satisfaction standards. He is responsible for maintaining the company's overall relationship across all product groups, in addition to company marketing and product planning activities. Under his leadership, AWA has been awarded a number of quality, delivery and technology awards from customers Toyota and Honda.
John speaks fluent Japanese, attended college in Tokyo, and was a resident of Japan for eight years and he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Japanese from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
- Mary Gustanski, Vice President, Engineering, Launch Readiness & Program Management, Delphi Automotive Systems
Mary Gustanski started her career with Delphi, then AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors, in 1980 as a college cooperative students. Since then she has progressed through the company holding several engineering and manufacturing positions. In 2012 she was named as Powertrain’s Vice President of Engineering, Operations & Customer Satisfaction and in August, 2014, was appointed to the Corporate Engineering Team as the Vice President of Engineering, Launch Readiness and Program Management.
In 2010, Mary was named as one of the “100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry” by “Automotive News.” She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as a master’s degree in Manufacturing Management, both from Kettering University (formerly GMI).
- David L. Knight, Global Director, Turf & Utility Platform Engineering, John Deere
Dave Knight has been in his current position since 2011 and is responsible for worldwide product development engineering activities for utility vehicles, riding lawn equipment, commercial mowing, golf, walk behind mowers and autonomous mowing. Dave began his career at John Deere in 1998 as Product Development Manager where he led engineering and portfolio strategy for Compact Utility tractors. He was assigned additional responsibility for Global Loader Engineering in 2010. Dave holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo (1983), became a Licensed Professional Engineer (1991), and recently completed The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth Global Leadership 2030 program (2013).
Dave is the Deere Functional Director for the relationship with Georgia Tech and has been a board member for Junior Achievement. He has supported numerous activities to encourage and educate our youth about STEM.
- Joyce Weishaar, Director, Human Resources & Executive Leadership Team Member, AVL North America
Joyce Weishaar’s career can best be described as one of “building bridges,” helping disparate groups and cultures find common ground across departments and around the world. Her Human Resources’ experience spans over 30 years, with the last 18 years directly focused on the automotive sector. As Director, Human Resources at AVL – the recognized leader in developing clean and efficient technologies to power the world – Joyce has worked closely with the CEO to build and maintain a cohesive senior leadership team. Since joining AVL in 2006, she has spearheaded a number of initiatives, including developing and implementing plans for North American staffing and global recruitment. She has a strong background in International Human Resources and Global Mobility.
Joyce holds a B.A. from Oakland University’s School of Management, where she concentrated on Human Resources. She also completed an Executive Leadership Program from American International Management and has several certifications in Human Resources through the College for Creative Studies.
