Arlington, TX (PRWEB) September 26, 2014 -- Mensa was conceived during a chance meeting on a train by two Englishmen, Roland Berrill and Dr. Lancelot Ware. In October, 1946, the newly created “intelligence society” convened for the very first time. Since that time, 50 countries have started chapters, including the largest, American Mensa. More than 110,000 people worldwide boast membership in this significant organization. Although the focus has always been on intelligence, the way it is expressed within the group has evolved over time. “We still enjoy getting together with intelligent people who can easily relate to each other,” member Stephanie Thornton said. “But now membership goes beyond that. We also give back in our local communities, raise money for scholarships, and support the unique needs of gifted youth through our Mensa for Kids programs."
This October, American Mensa will offer special features on its website that discuss some of the organization’s history and facts. Additionally, American Mensa is inviting people to take the official admissions test for just $20. Currently, there are 140 test sessions scheduled in October across the United States.
American Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top 2 percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test. Mensa has more than 56,000 members in the United States and more than 110,000 members globally. For more information about Mensa, visit us.mensa.org/join or call (800) 66-MENSA
