Mexican American Opportunity Foundation Presents Eighth Annual ¡Vive Tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® Event
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 29, 2014 -- On Saturday, October 4, 2014, the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) will present its eighth annual family health and fitness fair ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!®. The event promotes Hispanic family physical activity and good nutrition for better health and wellness for people of all ages and all sizes. This event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the East Los Angeles Civic Center, 4801 East 3rd Street, in Los Angeles, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
“This event is critical to the well-being of the Latino community in East Los Angeles. The many exhibitors provide useful medical screenings and valuable information on the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition. For the last few years, we have held this event to coincide with the Farmers’ Market, where a wide assortment of fruits and vegetables can be bought at nominal prices,” said Martin Castro, MAOF’s President and CEO.
¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® demonstrates the power of culture, family, and community to promote better health for all. Made possible by an extraordinary group of partners and volunteers, the Los Angeles event will feature free flu shots and health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney disease, derma scan, HIV/STI, vision, and dental screenings. There will also be activities for the whole family including tennis clinics, free haircuts, aerobics, rock wall climbing, a Zumbathon and face painting for kids, and healthy cooking demonstrations. Participants will also have the chance to win raffles and giveaways, enjoy healthy snacks, experience folkloric performances, and much more.
"The support we receive from Newman’s Own Foundation and the Healthy Americas Foundation allows us to serve 25,000 people at community family health events this year, like the one this weekend in Los Angeles,” said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the nation’s leading Hispanic health advocacy group, and author of The Latina Guide to Health and the Buena Salud® Guide book series.
“We are proud to support the National Alliance for Hispanic Health in providing community-based health and nutrition outreach,” said Robert Forrester, president of Newman’s Own Foundation. “One of the Foundation’s priorities is the support of nonprofits whose focus is on nutrition, and ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® works to address a broad range of needs on the local level.”
All participants of ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!® Los Angeles will be eligible to register for the National Alliance for Hispanic Health’s Buena Salud® Club. This membership club is designed to promote healthy lifestyles by providing year-round reliable and confidential health information and provider referrals at no cost.
