On Monday, September 29th, The Tijuana Flats Just in Queso Foundation (JIQ) will begin its annual fundraiser to raise money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Since 2007, the Tijuana Flats Just In Queso Foundation has donated $479,852 to BCRF through the sale of Tijuana Flats’ hot sauce and customer donations.
This year, September 29th – October 21st, all Tijuana Flats locations will sell hot sauce and tacos with pink tortillas in an effort to raise money for BCRF. Guests are encouraged to make their tacos pink by donating $1. In addition, all restaurants will also feature a “pink” memorial window for guests to sign in recognition of a friend, family member or own personal battle with breast cancer.
Last year, Tijuana Flats raised over $250,000.00 for BCRF which allowed the funding of a research scientist for one year, supporting the work of Dr. Joyce Slingerland, of the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Slingerand's work is extremely important, she serves as the Director of the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute, Associate Director for Translational Medicine at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is one of our very few researchers in the Florida area. Dr. Slingerland's project focuses on the cellular origins of breast cancer and potential inks between lifestyle factors (like obesity) and breast cancer.
In 2014-2015, BCRF will award more than $47 million in annual grants to more than 220 scientists from top universities and medical institutions around the globe. BCRF is recognized as one of the most financially efficient non-profits in the country. They are the only breast cancer organization with an “A+” from CharityWatch and have a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.

About the Breast Cancer Research Foundation
About The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF)
BCRF was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised more than $270 million to support research at medical institutions across the globe conducting the most advanced and promising breast cancer research that will help lead to prevention and a cure in our lifetime. To date, nearly $28 million has been directed to stellar scientists at New England medical institutions, and in October 2009, $3.5 million was awarded to 24 distinguished researchers from prominent institutions in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Today, Boston and the New England area have the second largest concentration of BCRF grantees. BCRF perseveres in directing at least 85 cents of every dollar raised directly to research. And for the eighth consecutive year, BCRF received Charity Navigator's highest rating, four stars, thus outperforming over 99.8% of the more than 5,400 evaluated charities, while the American Institute of Philanthropy has awarded BCRF its highest possible rating of A+. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization in the U.S. to receive these accolades. For more information, visit http://www.bcrfcure.org or call 1.866.FIND.A.CURE
