Glamour and elegance will reign supreme at Palm Springs Modern Committee’s(PS ModCom) Annual Preservation Awards Gala on Oct. 4 to honor those who have made valuable contributions in the areas of preservation, restoration, renovation or adaptive reuse of a midcentury modern residential or commercial property, along with excellence in new modern design.
Lending excitement to the committee’s season opener, this year's event will be an evening affair from 6-9 p.m. with a formal cocktail reception, dinner and award presentation at the fashionable Hard Rock Hotel in downtown Palm Springs.
The evening’s awards presentation will be emceed by designer Trina Turk, who is fresh from New York’s Fashion Week and J.R. Roberts, vice president of PS ModCom and director of the Palm Springs Art Museum’s Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion, which is set to open later this fall.
Tracy Conrad, a highly revered pioneer of the Palm Springs preservation movement, will receive the award for “Preservationist of the Year” for her magnificent restoration of The Willows and O’Donnell properties and for her most recent accomplishment, bringing The Aluminaire House, which was designed as a case study by architects A. Lawrence Kocher and Albert Frey in April, 1931, to Palm Springs.
“Tracy’s tireless efforts and service on boards and committees that support preservation of Palm Springs historical architecture have made our city a finer place to live,” says Nickie McLaughlin, executive director of PS ModCom. “We owe her an enormous debt of gratitude.”
Throughout the evening, guests will learn the stories behind the honoree’s spectacular architectural projects and be among the first to view photos of their exquisite interiors and exteriors.
