A New Day Welcomes New Program Director Dr. A. Johnson, PHD

A New Day Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center was proud to announce the arrival of Dr. Alonderay Johnson, PHD as their new program director. The addition of Dr. Johnson to an already stellar team of addiction professionals has given A New Day a fresh spark of energy and enthusiasm for treating substance abuse.

With background in everything from substance abuse to family and adolescent counseling, Dr. Johnson received her PHD in psychology from The University of Florida in 2004. She has worked in the mental health/psychology/substance abuse field since 1989. She began her work at University of Florida’s Shands Hospital where she worked as a primary therapist diagnosing and treating individuals while facilitating groups and offering patients conflict resolution and life skills. After two years there Dr. Johnson moved to The 45th Street Mental Health Center where she worked as a clinical psychologist evaluating and treating a number of various mental health diagnosis’ for six years. From there she began her work in the field of substance abuse, where she has been for 8 years.

After finding her substance abuse beginnings as a primary therapist at The Watershed, Dr. Johnson began making her way through the substance abuse field implementing programs and revolutionizing the way rehabs treat addiction. Her passion for helping struggling addicts and alcoholics is great and of vital importance in a field where successful treatment programing can mean the difference between someone’s recovery from substance abuse or death. Dr. Johnson has faith in her methods and believes in her clients. She gives hope to those who have none.

Dr. Johnson joined the A New Day family as Program Director in August of 2014 and they couldn’t be happier to have her on board. Dr. Johnson’s goal at A New Day Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center is to “enhance our existing program of substance abuse treatment and maximize our potential, by adding new staff, creating specialty programs and reorganizing the facility. “ Specialty programs such as trauma therapy, gender specific treatment and a strong family program will give A New Day the lead in treating drug and alcohol addiction in Florida. Trauma Specialist Kristie Slinskey, LCSW says, “Dr. Johnson is very well versed in programming and genuinely cares for the quality of care we offer every client ensuring their treatment experience is individualized and encompassing.” Dr. Johnson believes that every addict deserves a chance at recovery and “because they chose A New Day, we owe it to them to provide the best substance abuse treatment possible.” A New Day looks forward to seeing what else this remarkable woman, with years of experience in the field, will bring to south Florida’s leading treatment program.
