Orem, UT (PRWEB) September 29, 2014 -- NetHosting, a leading provider of cloud, dedicated, and virtual hosting, is spreading awareness about the recent Shellshock hack affecting users of Unix-based operating systems, which includes the majority of its customer-base.
In a statement regarding the recent discovery of the flaw, NetHosting CEO Lane Livingston stated, “Shellshock is the most serious threat to our OS security since the Heartbleed hack, which occurred back in April. We’ve made the appropriate updates and patches for our virtual hosting customers, but for those dedicated and cloud customers whose systems we don’t manage, the situation is different. We’re are making immediate efforts to spread awareness of the issue and offer our support for those who are unable to address the vulnerability issue themselves.”
Shellshock is a potential threat to any system running Linux, Mac OS, or any other Unix-based operating system. Affecting what is called the Bash shell, a widely used command line interface, the hack allows attackers to seize control of the system, run commands, and install programs, all without the user’s knowledge or consent.
NetHosting customers are encouraged to follow this link for more information and for assistance in repairing the potential vulnerabilities in their systems.
